Album art for Death by Rock and Roll by The Pretty Reckless

Death by Rock-N-Roll Cover Art

Death by Rock and Roll is the fourth studio album by American rock band The Pretty Reckless, and the third album I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with them on.

Released in February of 2021, the album's title is based on a phrase often used by Kato Khandwala, the band's longtime-producer, and very close friend, who died in 2018 from a tragic motorcycle accident.

"It was like a code that we lived our life by, and that I still live my life by," Momsen said of the title. "It's very much a battle cry for life: live life your own way.”

The band had a clear vision of what they wanted for the cover. We worked together to bring their vision to life with photographs by Danny Hastings.

The album was released on vinyl with in multiple releases, each offering a different colored vinyl in limited quantities.

And after 20+ years designing album packaging, this project marked a first for me as a designer… my first-ever cassette tape packaging.

The album was preceded by a few singles, the first being the title track "Death by Rock and Roll". We created custom artwork for for both the album version and acoustic version of the single.
